Mr. Kejriwal does not want security. He does not want a ministerial home. He does not want a beacon on his car. I am all for Mr. Kejriwal. I was a minister in a provincial government. Then I was a premier( chief minister). I did not want security. I did not want a home. I did not want a red beacon. Even if I wanted to I would not have gotten any of it. That is how it should be.
One is honest in government. One does not waste government funds ie. taxpayers money on wasteful and ostentatious things. That is nothing special. That is how it should be.
I remember meeting Kiran Bedi once in Delhi. She went to great lengths to show me her photographs and news clippings telling me how honest she had been. I appreciated her honesty but told her in the country where I lived then (Canada) she would not be news. She was flabbergasted. I told her honesty was common and dishonesty was news in Canada.
It is true . When people tell me that in India it is the system that is corrupt, I say dishonest people are to blame. People make up the system. The country is great; but only as great as the people are. That is how India is. It is great but only as much as we Indians allow it to be.
